This site was nominated more than any other site for this award … and that was before the selection process started.
They earn this first place spot for being a well-organized “hub” of security guard information. Yes, they are promoting their program, similar to 98% of the security-guard training sites, but you can see that, like some of our other Top 50, they care about the industry as a whole.
They freely promote other programs, companies, and information products. For example, POA doesn’t look like much of a link … but it takes you to a downloadable manual … almost a site within a site … for POA subscribers only.
Whereas most sites don’t link to security guard newsletters, I have identified a few that have a newsletter or ezine. Well, ASIS Online has a link to several online magazines. And they have links to both posting and searching for security jobs.
If you are new to ASIS, check out their FAQ page, and whether you are a novice or a pro … take a look at the site map to get your bearings.
This mega security guard training site lists events, has a security guard toolkit, has a press release section under their standards and guidelines, and more.
You really have to explore this site. Let me give you an example: If you go to the left-hand nav bar, you’ll find a link for Education. Scroll over education, and you’ll find a link to the library. Scroll over library, and you’ll see a Glossary of Terms.
Finally … there, you’ll find PDFs of the terms, by alphabetical listing.
As I said, some snooping will really benefit you.
This site is also the place to find an ASIS Chapter in your area. Look to the nav bar down in the footer of the website. And if there isn’t already a chapter in your area, they’ll show you how to start one.

I have to admit that I was a little scared by the steep prices in the Learn about Courses section. Seeing price tags of over a grand got to me. Still, their single seminar prices seem reasonable — in line with others offered in the field. So, don’t let my frugality deter you.
The price of $3,000 for one of their complete certifications does not reflect on the quality of their site. Neither does the $925 price of one of their courses, nor $99 for one of their webinars. When looking for the #1 site, we didn’t consider price. Not for the number one spot.
And these folks are the Winners of 2012, #1. This is the top security guard training website of the year. Congratulate them for us: ASIS International.
