Bureau of Security and Investigative Services

Category Winner: Easiest to Navigate Security Guard Training Site (2nd place)

Congratulations to BSIS for provided an informative site for the Top 50 of 2012.

First and foremost, if you are in California, you can apply online for only $51, as of this review.

Under Forms and Publications (link to the left), you’ll find information on a variety of security-related careers. Start taking notes like crazy, as you narrow (or widen) the scope of your career search.

Whether reporting unlicensed activity, renewing your license, or applying for a security guard license for the first time, if you are on the West Coast of the U.S., you’ll want to include this site in your information search.

I like to think of the Bureau as my “forms website.” Really.

If you don’t live in California, you need to discover a similar resource for your area.

Their FAQ section has category links, something that I do in the main section of this website. I approve of the practice; it makes answering my questions a lot more efficient.

If you want to be “the liaison” between the your employer (or the law) and the  public, then check out the Public Participation section of the site. Get any ideas?

Of note, the “bureau” is now including locksmith companies and alarm companies in the security industry. Good for them … and beneficial for you. Expanding your skill set, or allowing another area of focus, makes you more employable … for a higher wage.

Once again, congrats to the BSIS of California: http://www.bsis.ca.gov/online_services/online_licensing.shtml
